Three correctional staff were stabbed at the St. Albans Correctional Center in Gqeberha, according to Department of Correctional Service spokeswoman Singabakho Nxumalo. A complaint has been lodged with SAPS.
On Wednesday, the event happened as breakfast was being served.
According to Nxumalo, the department would use all legal means at its disposal to initiate legal action against the accused.
Three of our employees were attacked this morning as breakfast was being served by two inmates. “The Department of Correctional Services is taking serious action against them. To stop this degrading behavior, we shall use the legal remedies that are available to us. As a result, we wish our officials a quick recovery and are giving them the support they need.”
