Manyama: Agent updates injury status of former Kaizer Chiefs star amid PSL club interest

Lebogang Manyama, a former attacking midfielder for Kaizer Chiefs, has received interest from PSL clubs, according to his agency.

  • Manyama hasn’t had a club in about six months.
  • Despite having an injury, Chiefs released the former Bafana standout.
  • Phiri praised City manager Comitis’ parental abilities.

WHAT HAPPENED? The 32-year-old was released by the Soweto giants while still dealing with a bad ankle ailment, and he hasn’t found a new club since departing Amakhosi at the end of the previous campaign.
Following interest from his former club, Cape Town City, Manyama had surgery, but a transfer to the 2016 Telkom Knockout champions has not yet taken place.
Manyama is awaiting a medical report this week, according to his agent Maimane Phiri, who also revealed that City are still interested in signing him.

WHAT DID PHIRI SAY? “Lebogang told me that his ankle is healing the last time we spoke,’ We need to know if Lebogang will play this season, thus our trip to the doctor is crucial,” Phiri said Isolezwe.
“When I ask if he’ll play this season, I’m really asking if he’ll be able to come back to Cape Town City and train with them. Let’s not forget that his current state has caused him to accumulate some body fat. Then he would be evaluated by the coaches.

“When resolving Manyama’s problem, [City Chairman John] Comitis shown his parental abilities; he keeps in touch with him and is interested in how he is doing. He consistently states that he will give him enough time to complete a full recovery and that he does not want to rush him “He went on.
“I can’t tell you how badly this circumstance has harmed Lebogang. While he is busy tending to his ankle, he finds it painful to watch his teammates play. But a football player’s life includes things like this. I hope the doctor will have some good news to share with us.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Manyama will be expecting to hear well from the physician and land a deal with City where he can resurrect his career under Eric Tinkler, his former coach.
The Tembisa-born attacker was one of the greatest in the nation while serving as club captain of the Citizens, and he won numerous individual honors, including the PSL Footballer of the Season title while competing for the Mother City team.
In July 2017, Manyama moved to Konyaspor thanks to the assistance of former Bafana Bafana and Genclerbirligi star Phiri. At the Turkish Super Lig team, Manyama had the opportunity to play with Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto’o.
