The decomposing body of a man who was discovered in a bag outside a Schauderville school has been recognized.

Siyabulela Zonqo, 35, was identified by family members, according to spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

On Wednesday, his family got worried and contacted the police.

She claims that on November 29, Zonqo and a buddy left his Veeplaas house to hunt for job, as reported by his family.

According to Colonel Naidu, Zonqo allegedly went to a bar in Korsten around 3 o’clock that same day.

She claims that his friend went looking for him at 6 o’clock to go home but was unable to locate him.

Zonqo’s body was discovered by a bush dweller on the 3rd of December when he opened a bag he found lying against a wall in Grundling Street.

Zonqo had a belt around his neck and his hands were tied behind his back with another belt.

Colonel Naidu says his feet were bound with sellotape.

She says the circumstances around his disappearance and murder remain a mystery and the investigation continues.

  • Zimbabwe must rely on its South African Development Community (SADC) neighbors who have excess power to make up for the country’s power shortage.

  • A combination of bad management and climate change is to blame for this gap.

  • While attempts are being made to switch certain families to solar energy and remove them from the nation’s grid, the country will continue to rely on coal as a source of energy.

  • Zimbabwe’s president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, warns that due to a chronic lack of electricity, his nation will have to rely on its SADC neighbors for electricity.

In his weekly editorial for the state-run Sunday Mail, Mnangagwa explained that the proposal to “engage sister countries in our SADC region with excess power to sell to us” was a temporary solution to the country’s potential electricity shortage between now and April 2023.

However, sufficient resources must be mobilized in order to implement this measure.

“They will be mobilised,” vowed Mnangagwa. He added that “the cost of importing power is relatively less than a slowdown in industry, whose capacity utilisation has been rising steadily”.

    Infrastructural problems

Some have blamed Zimbabwe’s power generation sector’s bad state on inadequate management, a lack of investment in renewable energy sources, and the Hwange Thermal Power Station.

BREAK DOWNS. Stockpiles of coal and a lack of available plants can occasionally restrict the amount of energy produced.

The six generators in Hwange “are nearing the end of their lifespan and, therefore, require refurbishment or replacement,” Mnangagwa said in his column.

The Export-Import Bank of India has since agreed to provide the $310 million (R5.3 billion) required for the generators’ refurbishment.

A new 300 MW plant is planned to be connected to the grid by the end of the year, but it won’t be enough to meet the 1 725 MW demand that is already in place. This is simply a cautious estimate, though, as the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) reports that it has received applications for 2,350MW in new connections, with the mining industry accounting for 80% of those requests.

ZESA, according to acting managing director Howard Choga, has a $2 billion (R34 billion) infrastructure gap in addition to its meager electricity production.

    CLIMATE CHANGE.

Climate change has contributed to the nation’s power shortage in part because the Kariba Power Station’s ability to generate electricity has been severely hampered by the Kariba Dam’s rapidly dropping water levels.

The Zambezi River Authority imposed a restriction on Kariba Dam’s generating earlier this year because of this water scarcity. However, the dam’s generation has recently resumed, however with a cap of just 300 MW out of a possible 1 050 MW. Kariba’s contribution to the nation’s grid on Monday only amounted to 200MW.

    Coal

Mnangagwa believes there is no need to abandon coal as a source of energy in the long run.

Leading economies breaking their promises to cease the use of thermal power, he said, is a reminder that “we cannot be sentimental about coal while our industries die from power shortages.”

“We have abundant coal; it must be harnessed to meet our energy needs.”

“We have to revisit our whole licensing regime to speed up entry into the sector by new players and to encourage more independent power producers, especially in the critical area of renewables. The licensing regime must respond to viability concerns of such investors, whose support our economy now so desperately needs.”

Mnangagwa revealed that there is also a plan to target households with the capacity to run on solar, “so we remove them from the national grid”.

“In government, we are already incorporating solar [power] systems in packages that public servants enjoy. Such employer-assisted interventions, across the sectors, will see us speedily migrating more households to solar,” he said.

  • Three of the water bottles the scientists purchased in Pretoria, or one-fourth of the brands they evaluated, were deemed unfit for human consumption.

  • The Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University examined three types of water: mineral water, prepared water, and natural spring water.

  • All of them exceeded the World Health Organization’s recommended limits for chromium and nickel.

  • Three contained dangerous metal concentrations that were too high.

  • According to scientists who examined the brands of bottled water they found for sale in Pretoria shops, three of them are unsafe for human consumption. The other brands aren’t much better.

In all 12 brands examined at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University in the city’s capital, levels of chromium and nickel were higher than those advised by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The highest concentration of manganese detected may also be harmful to human health, and half of the samples had lead levels above the WHO guideline.

According to a team from the biology department lead by Prof. Joshua Olowoyo, the information on the labels of some of the bottles did not correspond to the chemical composition of the water they contained.

The scientists write in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health that a “hazard quotient” analysis “showed that the continuous consumption of some of the bottled water used in the study may pose a serious health risk to consumers.”

They demand the creation of a mechanism to track adherence to WHO guidelines and suggest that providers be required to make analytical results on water safety available to consumers.

Between April and June 2021, the researchers made a number of grocery store and spaza purchases. They brought dozens of bottles of “natural spring water,” “prepared water,” and “mineral water” back to their lab.

They blended three samples of each brand—which they refer to simply by the numbers one through twelve and do not name—and then used a spectrometer to analyze the resulting combinations.

The first unexpected finding was that, despite the labels’ claims of a pH range of 6.5 to a mildly alkaline 8.5, three of the samples “were all inside the acidic range with values ranging from 4.65 to 4.79″—far below the recommended range of 6.8 to 8.0.

According to Olowoyo’s team, this is crucial since low pH increases the solubility of trace metals. “This may raise their concentration in the drinking water, and our investigation suggests that this was the case.”

The next discovery was that all of the samples had chromium levels that were four to five times the WHO upper permissible limit.

The publication states that it “may be argued that part of the bottled water utilized in this investigation was a natural source from borehole water.” This is frequently the case, particularly with unregistered businesses, and the soil in the region where these bottled waters were bought is well known to be chromium-rich.

Although little absorbed by the body, chromium has been associated with kidney, liver, and lung cancer. An ore smelter’s significant chromium pollution of the drinking water in a rural Chinese research from 2011 revealed an increase in stomach cancer mortality there.

According to Olowoyo’s team, all the Pretoria water samples had nickel levels that were at least three times higher than those advised by the WHO. This was likely the result of underground water’s “prolonged and direct exposure to minerals,” though it could also have come from refineries, mines, and power plants.

“Nickel exposure can induce a number of negative effects on human health, such as allergies, cardiovascular and kidney illnesses, lung fibrosis, and lung and nasal cancer,” according to the US National Library of Medicine.

The WHO limit for lead, which typically enters water through corroded pipes but can also come from soil and other environmental sources, was surpassed by more than half of the samples.

The effects of lead intoxication on the neurological system are the key issue. and [premature birth], miscarriage, and premature death have all been linked to lead exposure during pregnancy, according to the study.

The levels of toxic trace metals present in three of the tested bottled waters, samples 6, 9, and 12, “may be considered unsafe for human consumption,” according to the study’s authors.

Statista reports that the average South African consumes just over 38 litres of bottled water per year. According to Olowoyo’s team, the perception that bottled water is pure and safe has led to its rapid commercial growth in both developing and developed nations.

According to scientific research, people prefer bottled water to municipal tap water because of its taste and perceived safety.

“However, given that South Africa has a wide range of mineral resources, including significant amounts of iron ore, platinum, manganese, chromium, copper, uranium, silver, beryllium, and titanium, the natural water may have been exposed to any of these minerals at levels above those that are safe for human consumption.

“A large number of mining enterprises contribute to South Africa’s GDP, yet the procedures used to extract these natural riches may also contaminate the groundwater.”

Iron, arsenic, titanium, vanadium, copper, zinc, molybdenum, and cadmium were also tested for in the samples by Olowoyo and colleagues Unathi Chiliza, Callies Selala, and Linda Macheka. The levels found were acceptable by WHO standards.

Following an increase in thefts, police in Gqeberha are once more advising motorbike owners to take extra security precautions.
According to police, four motorcycles have been taken since last Saturday in the Fairview, Pinelands, Sunridge Park, and Framesby neighborhoods.

“Police believe that a syndicate is now active in the area. According police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, the bikes are either hoisted onto a trailer or the back of a bakkie and driven away.

“The bikes often range in value from R55 000 to R150 0000 each,” she said.

According to Janse Van Rensburg, entry into the homes is typically acquired by pushing garage doors open or lifting automated gates, after which the motorcycles are pushed or driven out of the yard.

Police advise property owners to remember the following safety measures to protect their assets:

    • Make sure your vehicles are adequately secured. Your vehicles should all have trackers installed.
    • Even if your bike is kept in your garage, never leave your keys on it. Additionally, avoid leaving the keys in the garage cabinet, etc.
    • Make sure you always have the keys on you. In some cases, the garage doors were lifted and the motorcycle was taken.
    • Sometimes, desperate measures must be taken; secure the wheels with a chain lock or clamp.
    • Never turn a dog’s barking away. Avoid going outside alone if you have any suspicions; call the police or your security provider instead.
    • Observe the same kombis and open bakkies that frequently pass through your neighborhood.
    • Install an outdoor sensor light.
    • Older model cars should make sure to park close to cameras, especially in shopping centers, so that suspects’ footage is easily accessible.

Zimbabweans experience 19 hours a day of power outages because there is not enough water in the Kariba dam to operate the country’s primary hydropower plant.

The largest outages since 2019 are wreaking havoc, causing traffic jams in Harare, the country’s capital, where the majority of traffic signals are no longer functional, and disrupting mobile phone services since base station batteries don’t have time to recharge. Supermarkets, restaurants, and several other businesses depend on generators to stay open, but they can’t keep them running nonstop for a long time.

In his weekly essay published in state media on Sunday, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa stated that “Kariba generates roughly half of our power demands, which is why a decline in its generation capability immediately registers throughout our economy and in our lives.”

According to the Zambezi River Authority, which oversees water supplies for the two southern African countries, the level of usable water in Kariba, the largest man-made reservoir in the world that is used by both Zambia and Zimbabwe, was 4.1% as of Nov. 28. This is a record low.

According to information on the Zimbabwe Power Company website, Zimbabwe has used up its allotment of water from Kariba this year and was only able to access 200 megawatts of the hydropower plant’s installed capacity on Monday.

The energy minister, Soda Zhemu, stated through email that “Kariba will not entirely shut down.” In order to help expand the grid’s capacity, the authorities intend to increase power imports from South Africa and Mozambique and ramp up output from their outdated coal-fired power stations in Hwange to at least 400MW.

According to Peter Kapala, the energy minister, rolling blackouts in Zambia will begin on December 15 and only affect residential areas, lasting six hours at a time.

Lebogang Manyama, a former attacking midfielder for Kaizer Chiefs, has received interest from PSL clubs, according to his agency.

    • Manyama hasn’t had a club in about six months.
    • Despite having an injury, Chiefs released the former Bafana standout.
    • Phiri praised City manager Comitis’ parental abilities.

WHAT HAPPENED? The 32-year-old was released by the Soweto giants while still dealing with a bad ankle ailment, and he hasn’t found a new club since departing Amakhosi at the end of the previous campaign.
Following interest from his former club, Cape Town City, Manyama had surgery, but a transfer to the 2016 Telkom Knockout champions has not yet taken place.
Manyama is awaiting a medical report this week, according to his agent Maimane Phiri, who also revealed that City are still interested in signing him.

WHAT DID PHIRI SAY? “Lebogang told me that his ankle is healing the last time we spoke,’ We need to know if Lebogang will play this season, thus our trip to the doctor is crucial,” Phiri said Isolezwe.
“When I ask if he’ll play this season, I’m really asking if he’ll be able to come back to Cape Town City and train with them. Let’s not forget that his current state has caused him to accumulate some body fat. Then he would be evaluated by the coaches.

“When resolving Manyama’s problem, [City Chairman John] Comitis shown his parental abilities; he keeps in touch with him and is interested in how he is doing. He consistently states that he will give him enough time to complete a full recovery and that he does not want to rush him “He went on.
“I can’t tell you how badly this circumstance has harmed Lebogang. While he is busy tending to his ankle, he finds it painful to watch his teammates play. But a football player’s life includes things like this. I hope the doctor will have some good news to share with us.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Manyama will be expecting to hear well from the physician and land a deal with City where he can resurrect his career under Eric Tinkler, his former coach.
The Tembisa-born attacker was one of the greatest in the nation while serving as club captain of the Citizens, and he won numerous individual honors, including the PSL Footballer of the Season title while competing for the Mother City team.
In July 2017, Manyama moved to Konyaspor thanks to the assistance of former Bafana Bafana and Genclerbirligi star Phiri. At the Turkish Super Lig team, Manyama had the opportunity to play with Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto’o.

Joburg – According to EFF leader Julius Malema, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe defends President Cyril Ramaphosa for his own self-serving interests, especially given his association with Bosasa, which has come to light during the state capture inquiry.

    • “He knows that if Cyril goes, he too goes, and he doesn’t just go; he goes to prison,” he said.

He promised that his party would see to it that he was put behind bars and that the EFF would write to the NPA to request that Mantashe be charged.

    • “If they don’t charge Gwede, we are going to prosecute privately through private prosecution,” Malema said.

He claimed that given that Mantashe has not denied his affiliation with Bosasa, he does not understand why he has not yet been placed under arrest.

    • “Stop being factional and be factual,” he said.

Malema also compared Zweli Mkhize, a candidate for the ANC presidency, to Mantashe, claiming that there wasn’t enough concrete evidence to implicate Mkhize.

    • “The reality is that the Digital Vibes evidence is not overwhelming beyond the evidence against Gwede, against Nomvula, and against Thabang Makwetla,” he said.

Malema asserted that he was certain Ramaphosa would be replaced and that Deputy President David Mabuza would deliver the Christmas message from the president.

    • “The emperor is naked, and the favourite of the establishment is exposed,” he said.

Siphiwe Tshabalala, a former Kaizer Chiefs player, has spoken out about turning down a foreign team that had approached him.

Shabba says he has not yet retired, although he has had trouble locating a nearby club.
This is his second season without a club.

WHAT HAPPENED? The former Bafana Bafana player, who has been without a club for the past two seasons, insists he has not yet retired. The 38-year-old explains why he declined the international offer and why he instead likes to play locally. Even though there has been interest from outside of South Africa, he has had trouble finding a club in his home country. Tshabalala previously spent a brief period of time playing in Turkey, but he later returned home after his side was demoted to the second division. The seasoned offensive midfielder last appeared for AmaZulu in the 2020–21 campaign, where he saw little action.

WHAT TSHABALALA SAID: According to Soccer Laduma, Tshabalala stated, “Someone contacted me a text about an opportunity to play abroad, but I did not consider it.” I need to do a lot at home, not just in terms of football but also in terms of my role in growth and my academic goals. I want to concentrate more on that at home.

“Undoubtedly, I believe that South Africa’s age factor is still a problem. Once you reach a particular age, you are considered old, but what you can still do is not as important as your age, so that is still a significant component.

Tshabalala feels he still has a lot to offer as a player, but given that this is his second season without a club, catching up may be challenging if he signs with a new team. To get himself in condition and play competitively at 38 might be a difficult feat. Tshabalala joins Wayne Arendse, a former defender for Mamelodi Sundowns, who is also 38 and claims he has not yet retired.
